TEDS Data Dictionary

In Home Study Data Files

Contents of this page:

Introduction

This page relates specifically to data collected in the In Home study. More general issues relating to the storage and organisation of TEDS data files are discussed on another page.

Raw Data files

These files and sub-directories are currently stored in the \System\Rawdata\inhome\ directory, and the list below refers to files and sub-directories within this directory.

  • inhome.accdb. This is the Access database file (2007 format) containing all the cleaned In Home Study raw data. This is treated as the master copy of the data, and is the source of data used in the analysis dataset. The tables in the database are:
    • Child - data from the child tests, entered from testing score sheets.
    • Parent - data from the parent questionnaire
    • PostVisit - data from the post-visit ratings sheets reported by testers
    • InhomeProgress - admin data recorded at the time of data collection. Includes dates, exclusion flags, 'low Parca' and 'low language' flags.
  • \Export\ subdirectory, containing exported In Home raw data files.
These csv files have been exported from the Access database described above, for the purpose of making the analysis dataset. The files are called:
    • Child.csv (twin score sheet data)
    • Parent.csv (parent questionnaire data)
    • PostVisit.csv (post-visit ratings data)
    • Inhome Admin.csv (admin data)
  • \twin figure drawings\ subdirectory.
This contains a set of jpg image files, each of which contains a scanned image of the figure drawing ("draw a child") for a given twin. The files are pseudonymous, each filename being the pseudonymous ID (id_twin) for the given twin.

Dataset files

These files are currently stored in the \System\Datasets\inhome\ directory. The following list refers to items within this directory:

  • Edoub9456.sav - the current SPSS version of the In Home dataset for analysis
  • \working files\ - this subdirectory contains various intermediate files, saved during the process of converting the raw data into the dataset. This includes working datasets E1merge.sav, E2derive.sav, E3label.sav, E4double.sav, saved at the end of the four respective numbered scripts. The latter file is identical in all but name to the main dataset Edoub9456.sav referred to above.

Syntax files (scripts)

These files are currently stored in the \System\Scripts\inhome\ directory. These are SPSS syntax files. The names of the scripts are:

  • E1_merge.sps
  • E2_derive.sps
  • E3_label.sps
  • E4_double.sps

The processing carried out by these scripts is described in detail on another page.
