TEDS in the News

The October 2008 edition of Scientific American contains an article called Searching for Intelligence in Our Genes. In this article, Professor Robert Plomin (the Director of TEDS) discusses our research into the genetic influences on intelligence. All the references to Robert Plomin's twin research do in fact mean TEDS, even though TEDS is not mentioned by name in the article!

The British Psychological Society (BPS) recently published an article about TEDS research into the genes that influence maths and reading. The article appears in their research digest with the heading Most genes that influence maths ability also affect reading. Also in their research digest is an article by TEDS researcher Angelica Ronald, about why psychologists study twins.

Articles about TEDS research were published in the Observer on Sunday 7 August 2005. A short article appeared in the News section under the heading Twins hold key to unravelling maths gene. A much longer article in the Focus section, entitled The mystery of twins, gives a broader picture of research in TEDS and other twin studies.

TEDS research findings about Autism received press attention in 2003, in The Observer and in The Tribune (India).

What have we been finding out?

TEDS is the largest study of its kind in the world. We have already had some exciting findings that have been reported in specialist journals (see our publications list), as well as in the general press. Please take a look at our research page to see what we've been looking at.

You’ve provided us with so much data that we decided to write a book! As mentioned in the 2007 newsletter, we’ve written a summary of our work on academic achievement in the early school years. This academic book has now been published, and you can read it here.

Over the last couple of months we have been contacting many of you to find out how your twins are getting along. We are looking forward to hearing from you to catch up with all of the exciting developments.

A huge thank you to those of you who are helping us. We value every one of your contributions and couldn't do any of this without you!
